A LETTER TO HORSE LOVERS:

Dear HORSE LOVER,
I founded Soft Landing Senior Horse Rescue two years ago with a simple but profound mission: to provide a permanent, compassionate home for senior horses whose owners can no longer care for them at the end of their working lives. For many years before establishing the rescue formally, I quietly took in aging horses within my own circle. Today, that mission has grown to serve horses from across our local community—animals who need specialized end‑of‑life care that many owners are unable to provide.
This work is deeply personal. While it can be difficult to watch these horses age, it is equally rewarding to see them comfortable, content, and surrounded by care. They know they are safe and loved. After everything they have given to humans throughout their lives, they deserve nothing less.
Senior horses face unique challenges: weight management, dental issues, mobility concerns, and the general vulnerabilities that come with age. Unlike many household pets, horses are often displaced in their later years due to the space, cost, and expertise required for their care. My mission is to ensure they are never treated as disposable.
One of the greatest challenges in this work is funding. While the rescue provides peace of mind to former owners—knowing their horses will live out their days with dignity—it does not directly benefit them beyond that reassurance. Meanwhile, the cost of caring for senior horses is significant and often exceeds what was required during their younger, working years. Their care is a daily, ongoing commitment.
I have been fortunate to draw on a lifetime of experience with horses, having cared for them since I was eight years old. That background allows me to provide consistent, attentive care even under difficult conditions. However, I cannot do this alone.
Asking for help does not come easily to me, but it has become necessary. To sustain and expand this mission, I am seeking reliable financial support from community‑minded organizations that value compassion, stewardship, and meaningful impact. Your partnership would directly support feed, veterinary care, farrier services, shelter improvements, and the daily needs of the horses who call Soft Landing home.
If you or your company is able to contribute—whether through financial donations, resources, sponsorships, or connections—it would make a profound difference in the lives of these animals. Your support would help ensure that senior horses in our community receive the dignity, comfort, and love they deserve in their final years.
Thank you for your time, consideration, and compassion. I would welcome the opportunity to speak further or provide additional information about our work.
With gratitude,
Cori Rosa

At Soft Landing Senior Horse Rescue, we are dedicated to providing a safe haven for retired show horses. Our mission ensures that these magnificent animals receive the love and care they need for a peaceful retirement.
We also offer free transport for local horses in need of veterinary care at the local clinics.

As time has flown by I have seen our show horses age out and need a place to be retired. That now has turned out to be my place.
As I've become the caregiver for many elderly horses who have been so wonderful in giving everything they had to their humans, I feel like it's important to establish a place for these older horses to be cared for indefinitely and long after their work careers are over. They don't all thrive being turned out in fields and they certainly don't thrive when they're just set aside because their human has moved on to a younger, brighter horse or left the sport entirely.
My experience of caring for horses all these years in my backyard has shifted from managing show horses to loving, caring for, and managing aging animals.
Funds raised provide coverage of the costs that come along with the feed programs and daily care of these lovely old creatures and the care for them when they cross over. It is the single most heartbreaking event that most people don't see through to when they buy a horse.
